ABSTRACT

This article discusses the author’s introduction to Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and the results from a MSc qualitative study that introduced AI into the British National Health Service (NHS). Three themes are shared, together with a short illustration of what this means to start a broader conversation:

1. It gave people permission to think differently.

2. It gave a new frame of reference.

3. It changed how we felt.

The writer reflects on the value of AI within the NHS, with a couple of stories thrown in for good measure.
