ABSTRACT

The author describes his experience of pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, an opportunity to rediscover the self, to heal, grow and learn in ways that defy modern learning methods. It is learning with others through movement, direct contact and engaged communication. The simplicity of life while walking the trail, the discomforts and the common goal trigger a sense of community that reawakens an openness towards nature and other people.

Author: Hugo Couto

Hugo was raised a small village in Portugal. Life was simple. Curiosity and the need to learn led him to leave first to study, and later to live, in Belgium. He recently returned to Portugal to live, to discover that, despite dual citizenship, he is no longer Portuguese, nor is he Belgian. He has become something else, and looks forward to experiencing life with this new something else he has become.
