Which Number Counts? An Appreciative Conversation of Discovery and Design within Sport Science Support

ABSTRACT

Using objectives numbers generated through monitoring practices with the aim of enhancing athletic performance is common in high-performance sport. However, an important question to consider is what information is needed to make the athlete better and how can this information be used effectively by the coach? In this article we provide a potential avenue for Appreciative Inquiry principles that may optimise the ability for numbers to be used effectively in practice.
